Reading too much into it (Bible study)

Hey guys. Here’s an excerpt from last week’s World Changers Church’s Wednesday Bible Study that I thought might interest you. This particular point was under “Guidelines on how to interpret the Bible (hermeneutics)”:

3. Read the meaning out of the scripture, not into the scripture.

– Don’t make it more than what it is; don’t add extra meaning to it.

EXAMPLE: 1 Peter 3:3-4

“Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

=Reading the meaning out of it:

-When people look at your life, let them see what’s on the inside, don’t put too much emphasis on the outside.

=Reading into it:

-It’s wrong to plait your hair, wear gold, etc
